Sensible Motorcycling

Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach could have never imagined that their “Reitwagen” would be one of the most used methods of motorized travel. For some, motorcycling is a passion and for some, the only mode of transportation. Every day, millions of people around the world start up the engine of their two wheeled machine to go to work, school or even to travel. Motorcycles allow greater fuel economy and manouverability when compared to cars. This has been one of the major factors that makes one grab hold of their bike keys and head off to their destination. All vehicles emit noxious fumes into the atmosphere. These fumes choke the lungs of our planet(and ours too) and cause irreversible damage to the environment. This is true for motorcycles too.

As bikers, we love riding our motorcycles. These machines are a part of our lives. We love driving them, looking at them, feeling the wind in our faces when we are on the road, however, we of all people should understand the negative impact this has on our planet. Driving a motorcycle for leisure is forgivable and understandable but riding to and back from work when it is possible to use public transportation is not a sensible thing to do. Scores of people walk, ride a bicycle or use public transport to go to work. This helps reduce pollution in a major way. As bikers, we should strive to reduce the usage of our motorcycles only for leisure. Going to work? take the train/bus/boat/company transport instead of your bike. Ride a bicycle during the workweek-its healthier. Walk! that’s even better. Keeps you fit and gets you from one place to another. A little more timeconsuming, yes, but much better than burning fuel.

Cycling or walking keep us healthy. They reduce our “workweek expenditure” and we can spend or save that amount on other necessities. I strive to be a sensible biker. I use company transport to go to work. I walk to the markets close by. I use my bike to ride to our club meet, that is a leisure activity which involves driving my motorcycle once a week for about nine kilometers. This reduces my expenditure on fuel, tyres, motorcycle maintenance and ofcourse, keeps me healthier. It does not mean that I do not like riding my bike. I love my bike that’s why I ride it and keep it as my primary mode of transport. I try to lessen the environmental impact it has by riding pillion/taking a pillion along whenever possible, parking at the hotel where I halt for the night and walking to the places I wish to eat at/see.

I hope more and more motorcyclists think before they start their bike for the day and experiment with other modes of (daily)transport that are friendlier for the environment. This may also help in conserving oil so we may enjoy riding our bikes for a much longer time.

Ride-but sensibly.
The Baba.

This just has to be the lamest post by you EVER!! Like the king of lame posts … the supreme ruler to the posts written when you didn’t have a bike to ride and thought about justifying it perhaps … In the “boring” city you live in – WE KNOW how much you miss the bike when it is out of order … NEVER seen you on a cycle … you count the days to when your bike is in working condition again whenever it is out of order … and THIS is not the reason for it. Serve this BS to someone else on some other forum :-p … All of of should vote to make this THE most redundant post on the Internet!!
